Privacy Policy

How we collect and use data. Last updated July 18, 2026.

1. Who we are

RELL Seas Wiki (rellseaswiki.com) is an independent, fan-made resource for the RELL Seas game. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to RELL Games or any game development studio. All game content, names, and assets belong to their respective owners.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from visitors, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at [email protected].

2. What data we collect

We collect two types of information:

Information you provide directly - we do not require accounts, logins, or personal information to browse this wiki. If you email us, we retain your message and email address only to reply.

Information collected automatically - when you visit, our service providers automatically collect standard web log data: IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring page, pages viewed, time on page, and approximate geographic location (country/region level). This is standard for virtually all websites and is used for analytics, security, and advertising.

3. How we use data

We use the data described above to:

  • Deliver, maintain, and improve the wiki content and user experience
  • Understand which pages are popular so we can prioritize updates
  • Serve advertisements and measure ad performance
  • Detect and prevent abuse, spam, and security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information for monetary value. Under CCPA definitions, ad personalization may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" - see the CCPA section below for your opt-out rights.

4. Cookies and tracking technologies

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device. We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies (local storage, pixels, device identifiers) for:

  • Essential - remembering theme preference (dark/light), managing consent choices
  • Analytics - understanding site usage in aggregate (Google Analytics 4)
  • Advertising - measuring ad delivery, frequency capping, personalization when consented

You can manage your consent choices at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the site footer. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, but doing so may degrade some functionality.

5. Advertising and third-party partners

This wiki displays advertisements to cover hosting and development costs. Our ads are served by third-party ad networks and their demand partners.

Primary ad partner: NitroPay (Overwolf, Inc.) - a header-bidding platform that connects to demand partners including Google, Amazon, Criteo, PubMatic, Magnite, Microsoft Advertising and others. See NitroPay's privacy policy for their full list of demand partners.

Also present: Google AdSense and grow.me (Mediavine) for verification and audience measurement.

These partners may set cookies, collect IP addresses, browser and device information, and use this data to select, deliver and measure ads. Where required by law, they process personal data only with your consent, which is collected via our Consent Management Platform (CMP).

To opt out of personalized advertising industry-wide, visit youradchoices.com (US) or youronlinechoices.com (EU).

6. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the wiki in aggregate. GA4 collects the automatic information described in section 2 above and provides us with statistics (page views, traffic sources, popular content, device breakdowns). We do not use GA4 to identify individual users. IP addresses are handled per Google's standard EU data protection practices.

You can opt out of GA4 tracking site-wide by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

7. GDPR - EU / UK users

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you the following rights:

  • Access - request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification - correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure - request deletion of your data
  • Restriction - limit how we process your data
  • Data portability - receive your data in machine-readable format
  • Objection - object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent - via the Cookie Preferences link at any time
  • Lodge a complaint - with your local data protection authority

Our legal bases for processing are (a) your consent, given via the CMP for advertising and analytics cookies, and (b) legitimate interests for essential site operation, security, and fraud prevention.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].

8. CCPA - California users

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA grants you the following rights:

  • Right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and "sell" or "share"
  • Right to delete personal information we have collected from you
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information
  • Right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights

While we do not sell personal information for money, under the CCPA the sharing of certain identifiers with advertising partners for personalized advertising may qualify as a "sale" or "sharing". To opt out, use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the site footer, or contact us at the email above.

9. Children under 13 (COPPA)

This site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Data retention

We retain analytics data for as long as reasonably necessary to understand traffic trends, typically no longer than 26 months in Google Analytics. Ad partners retain data according to their own policies (linked in section 5). Emails sent to us are retained until no longer needed to reply.

11. Security

We serve the site over HTTPS. We use industry-standard security practices, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. If you become aware of a security issue, please contact us.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the current version took effect. Significant changes will be communicated via a site notice.
