Land Events
Overview
Land Events are dynamic, faction-driven encounters that spawn across every island in RELL Seas. Rather than static quests, these are living conflicts between the game's 40 pirate factions - battles you stumble upon, sides you choose, and relationships you build or destroy. Every land event is a progression opportunity: rewards include XP, items, money, and reputation changes with the factions involved.
⚡How Events Work
Activation
Walk into the proximity of an event area. The event triggers and NPC factions become active. Cutscenes may play to introduce the conflict.
Adventure Decks
Your Adventure Dex tracks your exploration quality across the map. Each area has a quality-of-life rating. Higher-rated areas spawn higher-tier events. Exploring every corner of every island increases your adventure quality and unlocks better events in that zone.
→ View Adventure DexThe developers are building cutscene introductions for events. Each encounter will have context - you won't just walk into a fight, you'll walk into a story.
Events are not pre-placed on a map. They activate when a player enters the proximity of the event area, and they randomize across certain areas of the map over time. The quality of life rating in your Adventure Dex for a given area directly dictates what events can appear there - higher quality areas spawn better events with better rewards.
⚔️The 40 Pirate Factions
RELL Seas has over 40 distinct in-game pirate factions, each with unique lore, crew designs, and multiple bosses. These factions are not background decorations - they are the engines of land events. Two factions may be locked in a territorial war on one island while a third stages a raid on a nearby dock. Who you help and who you fight shapes your character's faction reputation across the world.
🗺️Land Events (5)
You encounter a camp where faction members are imprisoned in cages. A choice confronts you: rescue the prisoners and earn their faction's gratitude, or attack the camp and take what you can. Choosing to help the captives frees them and rewards XP and items. Choosing to fight triggers combat with the guards.
Rewards
XP, items (randomized loot from camp crates), possible blueprint drops
Faction Impact
Positive reputation with the faction whose members you rescued. Negative reputation with the faction running the camp.
Two pirate factions are locked in active combat. Soldiers from both sides clash across the battlefield. You must choose a side - or attempt to stay neutral, which becomes increasingly difficult as the battle escalates. Aiding one faction grants positive reputation with them; the opposing faction will remember your betrayal and become hostile.
Rewards
XP, money, items from defeated enemies, potential rare drops from faction lieutenants
Faction Impact
Strong positive reputation with the faction you supported. Strong negative reputation with the opposing faction. Neutral play yields minimal rewards but no reputation penalties.
A faction has claimed control of a dock and a tense standoff or active conflict is underway with a rival group. The dock itself may contain chests, materials, and blueprints as rewards for the victor. Taking a side determines which faction controls the dock after the event resolves.
Rewards
Dock loot (chests, materials, blueprints), XP, money
Faction Impact
Reputation changes based on which side you aid at the dock.
A pirate faction is raiding a dock - attacking ships, looting cargo, and clashing with defenders. You can join the raid for offensive rewards and raider faction reputation, or defend the dock to earn defender faction standing. The raid escalates in waves, with stronger enemies arriving as it progresses.
Rewards
Raider path: stolen cargo, XP, raider faction reputation. Defender path: defender faction reputation, XP, rare item drops from raid boss.
Faction Impact
Strong reputation shift depending on chosen side. Dock raid factions have long memories - previous choices affect how NPCs react to you in subsequent events.
A faction is attacking a civilian village. Marines may already be engaged. You can assist the villagers and Marines to gain Marine and civilian faction reputation, or join the attackers for raider faction standing. Civilian NPCs in RELL Seas have voice lines and play roles in towns - protecting them has long-term gameplay benefits.
Rewards
Village defense: Marine faction reputation, XP, civilian gratitude rewards. Raider path: raider faction XP and loot.
Faction Impact
Defending villages builds Marine reputation and improves your standing in Marine-patrolled areas. Attacking villages triggers Marine pursuit and possible jail time.
⚖️Reputation System
Every faction choice in a land event feeds into the reputation system. Your standing with each of the 40 factions affects NPC dialogue, event access, available missions, and how hostile or friendly faction members are when you enter their territory.
- ▸Positive reputation: NPCs become friendly, offer missions, and may provide discounts or special items.
- ▸Negative reputation: Faction NPCs become hostile on sight, making their territory dangerous to cross.
- ▸Neutral play: You can attempt to skip faction choices, but this yields minimal rewards.
- ▸Reputation carries across sessions - choices made in previous events are remembered.
Notes
- ▸Land Events were confirmed in the Movie 2 developer showcase. The developers stated they have been 'mass-producing events' and that cutscene work is a major ongoing effort.
- ▸The 40 pirate factions all have unique lore - events are how you learn their stories.
- ▸Adventure Dex quality dictates event spawns - exploring thoroughly is the key to finding the best events.
- ▸Some events are exclusive to certain islands or sea regions - not all 5 event types appear everywhere.
- ▸Mesh-form bosses can appear within faction war events - multiple NPC enemies combining into a giant boss form.
